It's Gonna Blow

I wasn't really paying attention to the TV while I was doing other things, but AMC will be running the much panned volcano film "Dante's Peak" from about ten years ago. Apparently the guys in production who are tasked with making promo spots have a pretty good grasp as to the quality of some of AMC's movie choices.

In big white letters on a lime green screen were the words "IT'S GONNA BLOW".

Indeed.

Yeah. Although they started this practice several years back, I still have no idea how AMC defends the fact that they're showing some clearly awful movies on a channel that's supposed to show classic films. I guess that maybe they get better ratings by showing bad but newer movies over higher quality but older films? I don't understand.

Well, honestly I was thinking "Linda Hamilton + Pierce Brosnan + Volcano - Quality = Awesome"

It's how I end up watching lots of flicks, really.

League, which is better: Dante's Peak or Volcano?

All that is missing is a late night movie host, possibly dressed like the undead or a superhero, saying it.

Not sure the League has the moral high ground on the issue seeing as he paid to see the Fantastic Four sequel on its opening weekend.

I'm shocked that Tom Skerritt does not appear in either film. This seems like the right material for America's second favorite mustachioed actor.

I haven't actually seen Volcano or Dante's Peak. They came out around the time of Con-Air, the movie that gave me a four hour migraine. I really didn't see any action movies after that for a few weeks, and so I missed Volcano and Dante's Peak. Which, in retrospect, completely astounds me.

And, Anonymous, my anonymous friend, the League will claim the moral high ground whenever and however he pleases. Especially when it comes to lousy movies.

I ask again, who is anonymous and why does he/she continue to lurk?

BTW, I've seen both Volcano AND Dante's Peak (a feat which will undoubtedly haunt me on my death bed). They're both really bad. I tend to find Volcano to be the more annoying of the two because it has Tommy Lee Jones doing his usual "man of action/take charge kind of guy" schtick (a role that he first perfected in The Fugitive). But ultimately, they're both really bad.

I saw neither Dante's Peak nor Volcano, but I did see Con Air and Godzilla at the theatre. Ugh.
