So when I was walking out of ACL, I overheard a young lady sharing the following with some friends:

God. Austin. This totally reminds me of a joke.
Okay. Okay.
How many hipsters does it take to screw in a light bulb?
(pause)
What, you don't know?

Ouch.

So ACL Fest has become like SXSW, where people from all over the country fly into our city to hear live music and then bitch about our town? I'll admit that we have more than our share of hipsters, but then again, half of the people the they're looking at and talking about probably aren't even from here...

As someone who lives in Texas and has been to Austin a lot outside the festivals, that joke made me laugh.

I sometimes feel uncomfortably un-hip in Austin. Like I'm not trying hard enough to be different or have an angle. I'm just put down by The Man, I know... But I still like Austin!

It sounds like its true that a lot of the people at ACL aren't from Austin. Maybe the first two or three years, but since then its a big draw for out of towners, so Jason's kind of right.

I think it depends where you are in town and how seriously you end up taking those angles. Having lived in Chandler for four years, I've actually really come to appreciate different stripes of folks and how you can sort of do your own thing, even if your thing is being as suburban-stereotype as you want to be.
