Some Quick Stuff for Friday

A) If you don't watch Venture Bros., I can't help you.

B) DC has really been trying to figure out how to capitalize on the kid's market. It looks like they're combining the ideas of "Tiny Titans" (the comic series I recommend for, literally, everybody) and their Super Friends line of toys and comic. `

They're introducing DCU Elementary at some point soon, which will feature the mainstays of the DCU re-imagined as kids in school.

Why is Wonder WOman/ Girl just sitting there?

I can't tell you how brilliant I find this image.

The DCU Elementary clearly isn't too hip yet to that whole "integration" thing. Seriously, DC?

This is a technical thing, but DC Comics is currently in a legal dispute with the Siegel family regarding ownership of the character "Superboy", which led to the removal of the 90's-introduced Superboy from the DCU proper. I wonder what they'll call Clark?

C) Apparently a teacher is trying to get copies of DC's "Kingdom Come" for his ESL class. I don't know if kids unfamiliar with comics will get all the bits and pieces, or appreciate the statement against the excesses of 90's-era comics...

But its also a great story without all that stuff, too... Anyway, this is another comics-related chairty sort of thing, but the guy is asking for a lot less money.

Here.

D) Every once in a while I really wish I were in New York. Apparently there's going to be an original all-tap-dance opera about Superheroes coming to the Big Apple as part of a festival. Were I there, I would be all over this.

I love that Wonder Girl has an invisible go cart, but one girl on the "good" team and one on the "bad" team?

Okay, it's marginally better than the total lack of diversity, but it's still well into "token".

Shame, cos it looks fun.

One of the images I saw had Power Girl in it, but I would have liked to have seen Lil' Hawkgirl, and Lil' Zatanna. And those are a- players, at worst. There's a lot of B players that they could add. Heck, kids don't really know from 70's-era popularity, so why not?

But speaking of trying to make it not a bunch of white dudes, it becomes apparent how little of a depth chart DC has for its lead characters. It's something you see changing in the pages of actual JLA, and DC DID make a stab with the new Firestorm, BB and Atom (your mileage with these characters may vary).

I'll be curious how they introduce additional characters with this effort.

In the one picture where you ask what Wonder Woman/Girl is looking at, I can answer that....look at her face. She's checking out BatBoy and SuperBoy's backside...

She does look quite pleased...

I've already mentioned my daughter loves tiny titans (she now official has a crush on beast boy). I see great things in the future of this comic.

Super-Tween!

You're kidding about the kid Power Girl right? Right?

Nope. It's in the tug-o-war picture in the background.

Oh. Huh. Yep, there she is.

Yeah, I'd love to see Zatanna in this. Dunno how they'd handle the fishnets. Argyle's kinda close, I guess, and it would open the door to an Ambush Bug guest-shot. Shoot, there's a million dollar idea I just gave away. Run with it DC!

On a side note, this may be the most tolerable Lobo vehicle ever.

The only time I have ever enjoyed Lobo was in the Superman animated episodes and Justice League episodes. I don't want to bag on a Giffen invention (it's Giffen's, right?), but Lobo mostly doesn't work for me. But as a Nelson Munce-like jerk? That I can see.

Agreed on all 3 counts. That episode where Superman apparently died and Lobo shows up to replace him in the JLA was great, especially as it caused the missus to do a total "Who is that character?" which resulted in me explaining in way too much detail about the excesses of the late 80's, the satirical responses, foil covers etc. Good times.

But, yeah, lil' Lobo on a Bigwheel. Has potential.

That looks like a lot of fun. I met Alexandre Serra, penciller on Legion of Super Heroes in the 31st Century, over the weekend and he'd be good for a project like this. He was on his way to DC's offices to find out what his next project would be.

That Legion comic was great. And, yeah, I concur. His art could work here. But I'll miss the Johnny DC Legion title. It was a great read, and had very good art.
