Charity Opportunity

Hey Leaguers.

I am now beginning to recall that last year's charitable efforts went largely unnoticed here at The League. I'm giving it 24 hours more and then we're pulling it down. This is just sort of sad.

I was kind of surprised that you did it again after complaining about the results last year, but I want to be on record as having chipped in $20. On a note which relates to your fundraising efforts but which is more about holiday fundraising in general, it's always struck me that the holiday season, from a practical standpoint, just isn't the best time of year to be hitting people up for money. I don't know how it works for other people, but with the general need to buy presents and stuff for lots of people during the holidays, for me, personally, the Christmas season is one of the times of year when I feel like I have less disposable cash on hand than during just about any other time of year. I'm just saying that during the holidays I'm having to buy more stuff for more people than during just about any other time of year (and for many people there are also travel costs, costs related to food and entertainment, etc.). Someone needs to just establish a "charitable giving day" or something like that, but set it at some other time of year. I'm all for making worthwhile donations, but the holidays, froma purely practical standpoint, can probably be difficult for some people.

Your contribution is noted and appreciated.

The other reason I remember not liking doing this is everyone reminding me why giving during the season of giving was a bad idea.

I just bought some bees! I may be more excited than the recipients. Pollinate! Sting! Sting! Sting! Pollinate!!!!!!

I dunno -- maybe this would be a good opportunity for someone to buy a tree through Heifer. If the bees have a home, they probably wouldn't be so mad and stingy. See...we're helping. They'll probably name the town after you. Steansburg.

Well, my comment wasn't really directed just at you, but the practice on the whole. I understand and respect the whole "season of giving", but I'm just saying it can be hard for practical reasons. Wouldn't want to give up on the idea of a charitable holiday, but maybe it should be.... oh let's go with St. Patrick's Day! That way we might spread the love AND keep people from blowing all their money on booze.

I'm feelin' the guilt, man. But Renata and I give to a lot of local charities this time of year.
