A Post Before Driving

I need to start reviewing more old movies

If I started reviewing more old movies I watch on cable, would that be fun for you guys? I kind of got a kick out of the "Breakfast Club" review, partially because at least Steanso seemed to get a charge out of defending the flick from my grouchy, old man's ways. And just as "Pump up the Volume" seemed to spur a conversation, perhaps we could find more 80's or 90's teen-flicks?

What else should I watch and review? I'm up for any movie we once held dear. Just not Ferris Bueller. For all I can about that movie is that its awesome. It always has been. It always will be. And it cemented Jeffrey Jones in my mind as an actor who I'm still pumped to see when he appears in anything.

One movie I've really been meaning to watch again is "3 O'Clock High". It's basically "High Noon" in a high school setting, for those who haven't seen it.

What else? Dare I take another look at "Heathers" in a post-Columbine world? Are we ready for me to review "Teen Witch"? Help me out.

Heading out to the northern lands

I'm out of Austin as of tomorrow afternoon. If any of you can take Jamie and Jason under your wing while I'm gone, please do so.

I'll be in Denton, Dallas and then Lubbock. Lots of driving. I picked up a couple of audio books on iTunes. We'll see how it goes.

Don't worry about me being bored. If push comes to shove, I'll call for Emergency Homeboys.

If I don't post or get back to you, all you Leaguers take care.

If you're in Dallas, hit me with an email. I'll show you where all the good food is at.

I'm a little embarrassed to say that I'm sort of curious about the new Race to Witch Mountain movie. I loved Escape to Witch Mountain and Return from Witch Mountain when I was a kid, so I think my curiosity is probably 90% nostalgia driven. (and 10% driven by my love of The Rock. Is there anything that man can't do?)

I'm all for 3 Oclock high. It really struck me when watching it. (I believe, as with 90% of all good movies I saw in my formative years, it was because of JAL).

It's so nice to see a movie willing to take a chance or three.

Perhaps we could think of some off-broadway, if I may use the phrase, superhero fare. I actually watched Supergirl. I'm not sure if anyone else did. I can even sort of remember a scene or two...

Dude, I told Jamie like two weeks ago I was going to see the new Witch Mountain movie. Hell yeah! I am in.

We need to watch one of the old ones so we remember what they were about, because I haven't the foggiest.

JAL also got me into "Young Frankenstein" and an untold other number of movies. And, in fact, you both got me to see way more Kung-foolery than I would have sought out on my own.

I own Supergirl. It's terrible. I will be happy to watch it and review it.

I think I'm old enough now, unfortunately, that if I say what I'm thought about Helen Slater when I watched it the first few times, it's gonna be creepy.

Wait, is the criteria any 80-90s movies or teen marketing 80-90s movies?

My suggestion: Better Off Dead.

I really don't care if they're teen movies or just 80's movies. Supergirl is, in its way, an 80's teen movie.

I dunno. Really, I come up short of ideas around here. If you said "take pictures of yourself eating an onion", I'd probably do that, too.

Well then my suggestion is to focus on revisiting 80s-90s movies. Then, to make it interesting, have a few people actually watch it at the same time as guest contributors and then publish a roundtable discussion where one person starts off the discussion with an entry and then another responds and adds their own. This is done alot on Slate. I'd volunteer to revisit some movies.
