your geniuses at work |
On Sunday, March 2, we headed to the University of Texas campus to catch the UT Women’s Basketball team play in the final game of the year.
I thought I was being a smart boy and bought tickets for my parents, Jamie and myself.
This week is my mom’s birthday, and my parents are both alumnae of the University of Florida, who we were playing. I called to surprise them, and they informed me they’d already purchased tickets to the same game.
This is how things work at my house.

Steanso, The Niece and Yours Truly |
So, Sunday afternoon my mom and cousin met up with me and Jamie, and then Steanso's family. We had seats in separate sections, but it worked out.

first half shenanigans |
Anyway – thanks to ESPN+, I’ve been getting better coverage of the UT Women’s Basketball Team, which is a perennial favorite, and has been since the team was formed in the 1970’s. When I moved to Austin in 1984, UT Football was on a downward slump that would last til Ricky Williams and then Mack Brown showed up. But people loved both UT Women’s Basketball under Coach Jody Conradt and UT Baseball under Coach Cliff Gustafson – as both squads were wildly successful.
For some time, Texas has been on a crazy run of excellence in athletics. The masses likely think of us as a football school, and – yes, our football program is clearly doing okay. But also count in baseball, softball, volleyball, tennis, swimming and diving, track, etc… If Title IX has done anything for UT – and it's done plenty – it’s also given us an insane number of titles as the women carry us in a wild number of sports.

our cheer squad was also recognized for Senior Day - they were also the half-time show! |
This year was one of those years where a team just keeps winning, and you realize “wait, are we ranked in the top 5?” and, later “wait… we’re vying for 1st?” And it wasn’t hard to see how. It’s a team *full* of star players, from Oldacre to Harmon to Jones to SEC Player of the Year, Madison Booker.
It's been a memorable season, certainly, as its UT's first in the SEC, and schools like LSU in the SEC are no joke. So we attended on Senior Day, and managed to also see our team get named as one of the top teams in the conference.

The confetti canons did not disappoint |
That said, we kind of stomped Florida, with a final score of 72-46, and that was after a very weak first quarter and then our players kind of goofing for part of the 4th as they realized they'd be heading into the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament ties with Univ. of South Carolina for first.
We're playing again on March 7th in the SEC Women's Tournament, so Horns Up!

We were there, too. Good time, but some maniac started screaming at me as we were walking back to the car. Real handsome cat, though. Kinda made it OK.
Only the most charming and handsome of people would have done such a thing, I'm sure. Given your own chiseled, stunning looks
