Well, that was fun.
I mean, the whole thing. Deciding to put down the money for the WNBA package on YouTube/ YouTubeTV, trying to pick a team, failing to do so, learning about the WNBA, figuring out the hype about A'ja Wilson was not just hype. Figuring out who the stars were. Figuring out who the villains were, Alyssa Thomas.
On October 10th, 2025, the Las Vegas Aces swept the Phoenix Mercury in four games to win the 2025 WNBA Finals.
The Aces weren't my team this year, exactly. I had decided to follow the new team, the Golden State Valkyries, and for a week, the Dallas Wings (but I got mad at their terrible use of Carrington and bailed). But over the season, I watched pretty much everyone, and sometime early on saw Wilson play and was stunned.

As of the win, Wilson was a three-time WNBA Champ. A four-time league MVP and two-time Finals MVP. And a scad of other awards.
The play-offs defied my expectations, and I did not see a Phoenix Mercury/ Las Vegas Aces final match-up. But in the end, it was great, because... I like Chelsea Gray and A'ja Wilson enough that likely Aces are my team now. And, boy howdy, do I dislike the players on the Mercury, who basically weaponized the bad reffing and physically abused their opponents with no whistles blown on clear fouls. And, yet, they whined non-stop. But Copper is good. I'll give them that.

Anyway, I think I have a new sport to obsess over. Likely I'll be watching Unrivaled come January, the 3-on-3 women's league founded by and for WNBA players. I checked and they do have a ton of big names.
Also, hats off to Las Vegas coach Becky Hammon. Half-way through the season, the Aces were not looking great. But with the same line-up, they made their way into the play-offs and into a championship. That's some amazing coaching.
I mean, I'm a little afraid of Hammon and her hard stare, but that's okay. She's coached the San Antonio Spurs, and won the WNBA Championship in 3 of 4 seasons she's helmed Las Vegas. That's a dynasty.
Anyway, we'll be back watching next summer! And in the meantime, keeping an eye on the other leagues.
Congrats, Las Vegas Aces!
