100 Days of Noom

So, today marks 100 days of Noom.

It's going pretty well.  I've lost nearly 50 pounds. Pretty crazy what happens when you eat less and exercise.

I plan to lose a minimum of 30 more pounds, so we'll see what happens.  The next batch could take a while.

What hasn't really happened this go-round is the thing where my body gets used to the routine and plateaus until I find some things to change.  That happened at different phases the last time I did all this.  Of course, last time I was also working very hard at building muscles, so there was a balancing act between losing weight and getting more muscle mass.  I'll get to the muscle mass part after I hit a more ideal weight.  In the meantime, I'm still walking in the morning with Emmylou, and I'm still doing time on the elliptical 3-4 days per week.

It's been slow, gradual change in some ways, and when I realize how much weight that is in just over 3 months, I feel okay about it.

I feel like as I approach the century mark here, I am figuring out intuitively what I can and can't eat.  And I've given up eating mammals for a variety of reasons, so it's fowl and fish for me.  Lean meat.

Will this cause problems?  Maybe eventually.  But I'm also not experiencing the issues I was back in 2004 or so when I went vegetarian for a year.  I just couldn't get enough protein, and my gym routine was stupid.  I even would get dizzy if I worked out sometimes.

Way back then, I also learned that I have mild rheumatoid arthritis.  And before I started on this current round of trying to get healthier, it was really hitting my lower legs and feet.  I wouldn't say it's all cleared up and I feel 25 again, but it's reduced maybe 80%.  The joint pain is gone, and the occasional issues with plantar fasciitis is eliminated.

So, lots of incentive to do better and avoid mammals.

But by and large, I'm just figuring out how to eat based on the categories as it's clearly helping.  And I'm hoping to do this for a year or two

It's not all sunshine and roses.

I don't always find snacks that work.  I'm basically always on the hunt for what I can eat if I get hungry between meals that doesn't mess up my numbers according to Noom.

And there's a lot of repetition in my diet as neither Jamie nor I have a ton of time for cooking. I'm actually fine with it, for the most part.  Streamlining things has been okay - but Jamie - who has her own dietary restrictions, has done a great job finding a few new things here and there.

The downside is that I am smallerish.  Which means my clothes are starting to be a tad too big.  Fortunately, I hung on to a lot of clothes, and while I will be a few years out of date, I shouldn't have to go buy a whole new wardrobe.  I also don't want to buy anything until I do plateau.

So, get out there are eat come protein and vegetables, I guess.
