Weekly Rewind - 02/15/2026

baby's first tooth brushing

Happy post Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day kind of came and went.  It's just not either my favorite holiday nor Jamie's.  It's expensive and a hassle.  We stayed in, had a pizza and watched a movie I did not like at all.  Jamie gave me a fun card.

This was our 30th Valentine's Day together, and every year we remember our miserable first Valentine's Day sitting in freezing weather outside waiting for a table, only to then be sat outside near one of those gas burners, which did nothing.

It's a bunk holiday.

Steven and Lauren and young Alexander Come to Town

Team Harms-Roth was in town this week!  They were in town to see Steven's family/ get out of the NY winter as they're now located in Manhattan, and we were able to visit and grab dinner.

Since last we saw them, Alexander joined Lauren and Steven - and he's a great kid.  Really bright.  Sounds like they're keeping busy - and Lauren is working on an app that sounds like a phenomenal idea, so when that lands, look out.

They're doing well, and we were delighted to spend some time with them.

Jim D was in Town!

College pal Jim D was on one of his tours of Austin, taking some time away from the office back in Charlotte.  He got me out of the house and over to St. Elmo's Brewing and we did as folks do, and caught up.

He gave me a copy of the novel Millennium, which he'd heard was much better than the movie which we'd watched recently.

Jim was also going to a show or two - he's the biggest live music fan I know, and I know Mike B.

Caught Up With Danny H

Back in the days of the podcast, from time-to-time, I was working with Danny Horn out of San Francisco.  When the podcast ended, I kind of lost track of him.   But Danny is not just a Muppets fan, he's kind of an Omega Level Muppets Fan and founded the Tough Pigs fan community.

With the new Muppet Show on Disney+, I thought "I should say howdy and catch up", and it was great to do so.  He's involved in a lot of stuff right now, and I'll link to it in a future post after I've had a chance to look it all up.

Winter Olympics

We've been watching a lot of Winter Olympics.  I've missed most of the skating as Jamie's been watching it live while I'm working.  I've been checking out some skiing, snowboarding, luge, skeleton and fast track skating.  What I am less enthused about is that they'll have 3 hours of first rounds, so I'm now waiting until the finals of most events.  3 hours of people taking 3 minutes on the luge is a lot of luging on the same track when you don't know who anyone is.

By and large, I think NBC is doing a great job.  I'm watching a minimal amount of primetime coverage that condenses things and has the side-quest packages, but I understand there's value there.  Instead, they have complete coverage on Peacock and it's very well organized.  Not to mention, the footage is phenomenal.

They have seemed to have learned that people don't want (a) lengthy videos about the athletes in lieu of watching more events.  If they do one of those packages, they're brief and to the point, and less about digging up some family tragedy.  And then we watch the athlete wipe out.  (b)  I know I've said this every Olympics for a while, but they finally stopped shoving microphones in the faces of athletes who just won Silver and asking them "so what went wrong?"

I also think my parasocial pals Johnny and Tara found a good balance for when to talk during skating and when to shut up.

Speaking of, NBC is simultaneously airing Traitors where Johnny and Tara are contestants while the Olympics are on.  It's been an interesting thing on the socials to see people crossing over as skating fans to watch the show, or reality show fans watching skating to get more Johnny and Tara.

The most fun stuff for me has been the sports that have previously been individual where they have two or more competing, like Snowboard Cross and the Dual Moguls.  Just fun stuff.

But I still like bobsled.
