The League's New Year's Resolutions

1) Play the bass guitar. It is shiny. It is blue.

2) I'm going to read more books this year and watch less TV. This year my book intake was probably the lowest of my entire life, and I'm deeply embarassed of that fact. So, hope to do better in 2008.

3) Consider getting rid of a portion of my comics collection. And maybe some toys. Rather than try to just sell them en masse, I may enlist Jamie to work with me to get set up with eBay. I am not going to read large portions of my collection ever again, and many series and issues hold no sentimental value. I think it may be more work, but I am sure a better price for much of my collection could be got by not trying to foist my collection upon the few remaining comic shops in Austin.

I will not be getting rid of any Superman, Batman, JLA, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, etc... In fact, I have no idea where this leaves me.

4) Quit eating so much sugar and salt.

5) Drink more water.

6) Play two shows this year with Jason and anyone else who wants to join the band. (Hurry up if you want to join. We'll need to get fitted for our matching suits.) Even if these two shows are in my living room, it's a goal.

I think that's a pretty good list.

In a state far, far away, after the Great Flood, I played bass guitar. Mine was shiny and red.

My parents even paid for expensive lessons that went to waste. But that's not the point of this.

Here are some songs I enjoyed "playing". That's in quotes because I really sucked ass.

Immigrant Song - Led Zep

(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth - Cliff Burton/Metallica

The Trooper - Iron Maiden

Anything by Primus and RHCP.

I am far, far away from being able to play anyhing but very simple basslines. I cannot, at this time, even begin imagining playing anything by RHCP.

For years now, I've watched the Brothers Steans wind their way through varying degrees of bass guitar bliss. I guess it makes sense. The Brothers Steans, after all, are bigger than your average bears. Consider, however, the picture that say, prowess with a ukulele might bring. Lots of big dudes play the bass guitar. How many big dudes play the ukulele? Think about it: ever seen a sad Hawaiian (the Sugar Bowl notwithstanding)? No sir, you have not. There's a reason for that. This world would be a better place. I'm sure of it. See here for more info:

I dig the idea of matching suits, too. Think Hank Williams, Lucchese boots and white Stetsons.

tear in beer,

I believe Jason actually received a ukelele for Christmas circa 2005. It's entirely possible he's secretly mastered the instrument, but I've not seen him embrace the ukelele in the manner which I'd expected.

One instrument at a time, Larry Lee. But we will soon be dominating the music scene in the Western Hemisphere.

You guys should call your band Wyld Stallyons.

Jason will not let me use the names I've selected "The Brown Sound" or "Brown Note"

Okay, for real now....I took voice lessons as my mommy time away in January and have mastered every Sara Bareilles song written, some Pink...other related tunes. So, I'd be happy to sing a tune or two with the brothers Steans when we come to Austin next....when that will be is unknown, but if fares keep staying cheap I'll fly twice a year down just to hang with you guys and Jamie!
