Gone With The Wind

I've been watching the second half of "Gone With the Wind" on TCM.

For a Hollywood classic, these people have some seriously weird ideas about love and romance. I am also baffled by the adoration of the character of Scarlett O'Hara. She's a horrible, horrible person.

Really, Mammy is the only likable character in the whole thing.

I love classic movies, but really did not like GWTW at all. I saw it on its theatrical run nearly 10 years ago, and felt about half of the second act of the movie (post-intermission) could have been cut.

I do love to quote the "As God is my witness I'll never go hungry again!" line, though.

It's a lady trying to steal her friend's husband, she marries her sister's boyfriend for a second husband, she's refusing to sleep with her own 3rd husband, her folks are useless, and, of course, there's a child caught up in the middle of it all.

Great American movie making, or Jerry Springer episode?

All we're missing is Jerry's Final Thought. Except we get that, too. Tomorrow IS another day.
